Consultant Geriatrician with a Specialist Interest in Frailty

Location: North West of England
Hours: Part-time. 8 Programmed Activities (DCC:SPA = 4.5:2.5)

On call: Frequency 1:13; Category A - 3% on call supplement (Pro-rata)

Are you a dedicated Consultant Geriatrician looking to make a real impact in elderly care? We are seeking a highly motivated professional to join our dynamic team, working in an innovative frailty service within a well-established Department of Medicine for the Elderly.

About the Role

As a Consultant Geriatrician, you will play a key role in delivering specialist care to older patients, focusing on frailty, stroke, falls, and dementia. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive geriatric assessments and contribute to the development of patient-centred services.

This is a full-time position with an initial 10.8 Programmed Activities (PAs), including on-call duties (1:8 rota). Part-time applicants will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Frailty Assessment Unit, conducting ward rounds and rapid assessments.
  • Provide in-reach services to the Emergency Department, identifying frail elderly patients for specialist care.
  • Supervise and train junior doctors, contributing to medical education and postgraduate training.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and research activities to enhance service quality.
  • Work collaboratively with community services to provide integrated care for older adults.
Requirements
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practise.
  • CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent) or within six months of completion.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in geriatric medicine, with a passion for service development and research.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a commitment to patient-centred care.
